- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
- 3 small pears, peeled and cored from the bottom
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Prep pan — Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Line a loaf pan with parchment.
- Mix dry — Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
- Mix wet — Whisk oil + sugar. Add eggs, vanilla, yogurt.
- Combine — Add dry into wet until just mixed.
- Assemble — Pour half batter, insert upright pears, add remaining batter.
- Bake — 50–60 minutes until tester beside pear comes out clean.
- Serve — Cool → dust with powdered sugar → slice to reveal whole pears.
